We believe this book can be highly didactic when approaching Os Lusíadas, representing a strong source of motivation for students who are usually afraid, aloof and bored when studying this major work of art of the Portuguese culture.
Besides its educational side, we wanted to make sure the book featured all of the graphic and artistic quality that has been a hallmark of Tradisom for the last 20 years. In this aspect, we’d like to higlight the gorgeous illustrations by award winning Pedro Sousa Pereira, as well as some of the artists who participated on this project, like Sérgio Godinho and singer João Afonso (D. Pedro); Uxia Senlle (Inês de Castro), a popular singer from Galicia; Manuel Freire (O Peregrino), the voice of the timeless Pedra Filosofal; Azorian director, singer and composer Zeca Medeiros (D. Afonso IV); percussionist Quiné, who was once a member of the Brigada Victor Jara and has recorded several popular and jazz records; Aurélio Malva, also a member of that highly regarded group; Sebastião Antunes, leader of the popular music group Quadrilha; and Fernando Meireles, founder of the group Realejo and notorious builder of Portuguese popular instruments, responsible for the return of the sanfona. Finally on this long list just a brief note about the author, Carlos Clara Gomes, musician and author with a 40 year old career, incluing the Ópera do Bandoleiro, in which the Brazilians Quinteto Violado and also Brigada Victor Jara participated, along with Ópera Cinco, a part of the Portuguese Republic’s centenary’s celebrations.
