The travelling done by the Portuguese, who from the 15th century onwards ventured themselves searching for new seas and new lands, is also defined by the process of exchange where music took an important role, even if not always in the more transparent way.
That’s the central concept of this colection that aims to illustrate sonorities that result from the transplantation of structures and expressions associated with music, in which the Portuguese had a decisive role during the period known as the Discoveries.
But even more exciting than looking for traces of Portuguese music on the music of the planet we wish to review how the people who adopted the music brought by the Portuguese gave it new expressive sonorities, now embedded with autonomy and vitality, creating other sonic universes. This is where “a viagem dos sons” (the journey of the sound”) finds its greater charm and meaning.
